Happiness is… ‘new’ second-hand books!
We are a family that loves books. If possible, I would have one of those old fashioned home libraries, with the wooden ladder and large, overstuffed leather chairs. I can spend hours searching through used book stores, market stalls and, in this case, used sales online. But talk about a GREAT find!
For probably less than 50 cents per book, I have now amassed a great collection of books for my kids. Goose was so excited! I love the various reading levels and subject matter. There were even three board books for Pickle to enjoy eating/drooling on. Her personal favorite seems to be Winnie the Pooh – classic picture version – as seen above, ‘Hello, Winnie-the-Pooh’.
Goose and I have recently started reading short chapter books at night. We started with Fantastic Mr. Fox, by Roald Dahl. He LOVED it! I couldn’t have picked a better book to start with for Goose. He especially enjoyed the descriptions of the three farmers. It was wonderful watching him imagining the adventures in the book. Currently we are half way through Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, also by Roald Dahl. He is more excited each night to find out what happens.
Though the chapter books are a lot of fun, after getting the ‘new’ books today I realized how much we have been neglecting the picture books. Goose really enjoys looking at the pictures and figuring out the story for himself. Plus, he likes it when we read all together with Pickle too, which is much easier when she has pictures to drool over.
Today, this is a great find at an amazing price…and my happiness is in the joy it brings to our family.
