After such a long writing hiatus, I am finding it difficult to get back into the swing of things. I have been doing a lot of thinking about the direction of this blog and especially the focus. Given the name – kids on the trek – and my original idea of writing about world travel with kids – I seem to have unfortunately digressed drastically from my vision. This blog has become more of a personal journey – with parenting, homeschooling and a few travel posts thrown in – not my intention at all.
For the past two months I have also been reading a lot of other blogs – be them child related or not – and discovered the success of these blogs really does rely on a consistent focus or theme, where as I have been treating mine as more of a personal diary of sorts.
Therefore I have come to the conclusion that I need to re-focus my original vision of writing about travel with children. Though these posts will of course include home/world/road school, parenting issues etc. – I intend to write with an eye on my intended audience – mainly parents and people interested in travelling with children – be it long or short term. (I can always open another blog for more journal/diary writing if desired.)
I intend to spend the next month working on my blog layout – turning it more into an actual website that is user- friendly for my readers. I also intend on deleting old posts that do not reflect the theme of travel with kids. More posts will be added that highlight our travels – with more information on where, when and how we have travelled with our children already. Though I will, of course, keep some key posts that reflected our life in Canada while we were not travelling, those kinds of posts will no longer feature on this site.
My other intention is to make time to write. It is something we have been discussing a lot at home, and I have come to the conclusion that I need to make a time each day for writing/blogging – to treat it like a job. Because it is something I love doing, I tend to treat it as something less important than say housework or time with my family. Those things are important, but I also need to devote major time to my writing if I want it to be successful. (By successful, I mean fulfilling for me and able to provide some sort of income in the future)
I understand there have already been so many inconsistent changes on this blog. I am a horrible procrastinator and I have a serious problem when it comes to sticking with a project that I have given myself. If this was a ‘real’ job, I would have already excelled at it – but because this is something I am trying to do for myself, it is harder for me to make it a priority.
So, thank you my dear readers/followers. I know I have been woefully inconsistent with my posts – both in timing and content. This has been, and will continue to be, a work in progress, but I sincerely hope you will stay with me to a brighter future. Here’s to yet another ‘NEW’ Beginning…
