05. Planning Our Next Adventure

Mexico is a mosaic of different realities and beauties.

It’s official! Our next expat long-term destination will be MEXICO! None of us have ever been to Mexico, but Steve and I have long thought about it as a serious destination and place to spend at least a few months. We already love Mexican food and can speak some Spanish (albeit quite rusty now and not Mexican Spanish, but still it’s a start).

As quite the adventuresome family, we have been feeling the travel itch for some time now. But, now we have set our sights on Mexico for a long term stay of at least one year.

What does this mean for our current situation?

Renovations. Serious renovations with a mind towards renting out our home long-term while we are away. It is time for some elbow grease and a lot of planning. Painting, repairing and ensuring the house is fit for another family to enjoy, hopefully, long term.

We have given ourselves quite some time to complete this project. 820 days to be exact – though that date may change – we felt that we had to at least give ourselves some sort of timeframe to work towards. Our to-do list is enormous, but we have determination and desire on our side.

Stay tuned in for all our planning and house projects on here and Instagram @kidsonthetrek. The preparations are part of the journey after all… Viva Mexico!

We would love to hear from anyone who has lived in Mexico long term with kids. Where do you recommend? What did you like the most and the least? What advice would you give another expat family looking to live in Mexico? Thank you in advance for reading and responding either in the comments below or through our contact page.
