Nova Scotia has some truly amazing beaches. Long stretches of sand and blue waters (admittingly VERY cold), especially along the south shore. One of our favorite beaches, known for its soft near white sands and blue/green sea, is Carter’s Beach.
It can be a bit of an interesting place to find and I would not trust your GPS to get you there at all! Follow Hwy towards Liverpool, NS until you come to Port Mouton. Turn left on Central Port Mouton Rd and then left again on Carter’s Beach Rd. Once you know the way, it is best to head there on a weekday. Parking is sparse, but we have never found the beach to be overly crowded.
Carter’s Beach is a wonderful place to spend the day with the kids. They can dig in the sand and play in the surf or explore the small wooded island which becomes easily accessible at low tide. We have always found the beach to be a bit on the windy side, which is great for flying a small kite, but beware your picnic blanket and towels are well anchored down! (speaking from experience!)
It really was the perfect day of sun, sea and sand!
