In the beginning

Here is the history post.. the one we all end up writing to give our hopeful readers a bit of back story. The development of character. A bit of meat to sink our teeth into.

Now how do I define myself?

It’s easy to write down the facts – age, marital status, children etc.. Though that gives people a general picture, it doesn’t really paint a picture of me. Perhaps it is better if I tell a story, a general flashback into the past.

Imagine a woman trying to save an unhappy marriage by moving from Canada to Spain. As anyone can predict, it is a recipe for disaster, but one that leads to unexpected happiness. Sounds like the plot of a cheesy romantic comedy, but it sums up the major turning point in my life.

Spain was where I found my self-confidence and the love of my life. It was where I became a mother for the first time. And, Spain was where I re-kindled my love of travel and writing.

Then,  we came to Canada for a break and to visit family. A few months into our visit, my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Our whole life changed in an instant and we decided to stay.

Back to the 9-5 lifestyle, working 40+ hours a week to support my family. Thankfully we haven’t had to pay someone else to raise our son, as my husband stays home with him. It is the greatest luxury we can provide him at this time.

This brings me to the present, though I’m sure to have raised a lot of questions for specifics. But, I do not live in the past, so I don’t tend to over analyze or re-hash events to myself or others. I prefer to live in the present moment while planning for the best future possible.

UPDATE: My dear mother passed away in May, 2015 and our new baby girl was born on July 29th of the same year. From then commenced a mass clean out and storage of our belongings into a 5 foot x 5 foot locker while planning and booking our travels, before setting out on our epic travel adventure.

Follow along with our rambling journey through parenting on the road.
